May 24 - The Opus Project Orchestra

Rehearsal for Opus 5, our largest ensemble yet, and it's an impressive one,

right from the Arnold Schoenberg Pelleas und Melisande excerpt, through Bela Bartok's Two Portraits: II. One Imperfect, Igor Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring: Introduction and Dances of the Adolescents (would we could do more!), Samuel Barber's Overture to "The School for Scandal" beginning, to Witold Lutoslawski's Venetian Games: I and Mark Alburger's The Lord's Prayer, with the magnificent David Chavez.

Happening chamber works include Harry Bernstein's If All the World Was Apple Pie, Leonardo de Lorenzo's Appassionata and Paul Hindemith's Funny Songs in Swiss-German Dialect: I.

Previous to this the Quartet rehearses Webern's Five Pieces and the Milhaud, both opus 5's, of course, while sheet music is feverishly prepared.

Despite this being graduation night at Diablo Valley College, everything transpires rather smoothly.

The day begins with composition of Hamlet, page 7,

beautiful commute; and ends with program production for Opus 5.  65th day of summer.  High 78.  Somewhere in there, having sketched out an orchestration of The Lord's Prayer, Op. 5... begin composition of Three Sacred Choruses, Op. 215...
