course for the residence, writing page 7 of The Decameron - Third Day: IX and score-studying Dmitri Shostakovich's Theme and Variations in Bb Major (6 -- have learned that our string quartet for The Opus Project has parts for Samuel Barber's Dover Beach) and finishing same for Benjamin Britten's A Boy Was Born: Theme.  Blitz out to the evening class, with technogical challenges -- initially no sound from the laptop (the old toothpick trick -- pencil, really -- fixes it), then same lack for the stereo system (determined by borrowing Sidiq's computer).  Doug to the rescue, with external speakers, and while he sets them up, there's evidently time to repair to the car, picking up the ones used for various shows (including the Opus Project series).  By return, DVC back-up system has materialized, though unconnected -- figure, might as well use the known quantity, but, no, the power chord is not in evidence (Harvey-like, it re-appears after class), so, proceed to connect the unknown situation, and, thankfully, it all works.

With no time to spare, romp through a repertory from F.J. Haydn's Symphony No. 45 ("Farewell") to Verdi's Rigoletto: Quartet, looking forward to later Romanticism next week.
