Mondays,

halfway through the semester, Week 9 for the Diablo Valley College Theoreticians, and we don't even get around to the Dictation / Keyboard-Solfege / Board Harmony (which will be Scott Joplin's The Entertainer, which is at leasted played / shown , so tomorrow it will be).  Introduce, at least, the content for Thursday's Quiz, including C and Db Whole-Tone Scales (referencing Claude Debussy's Piano Preludes, Book I: II. Voiles, with background on the composer including a Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun excerpt), Gb / F# Major, Bb and Eb Minor, and the progression CM7 C C/E C/G G7 C[/G].  Play videos of the Arnold Schoenberg Six Little Piano Preludes and beginning of A Survivor from Warsaw, and all the works of the day provoke spirited discussion.  Finally, chance-realize a Prime 12-Tone Row from student suggestions and derive the Retrograde, Inversion, and Retrograde-Inversion (alluding briefly to rival Igor Stravinsky's late usage of Inverted Retrogrades).
