September 8 - Golden Times

Page 20 composed for Psalm 102 and At a Medical Deposition, plus continued score-study of Igor Stravinsky's Two Poemes of Verlaine: I, Paul Hindemith's Three Songs: I, and Kurt Weill's Quodlibet: I, with a fourth system for each, on the hottest day (168th of summer) since August 19's 104, at the even century mark (72nd 90+, 16th 100-or-better of the year).

So it's off to the relatively cooler Sierra we go,

once

again

in

the

high

country,

vaulting Donner Summit,

down

into

Truckee,

through

Martis Valley,

up and over, beyond Brockway

into Nevada,

ascending

the

slopes

of

Mt.

Rose,

lingering

at

the

Pass

(a.k.a.

Summit),

then

crashing down the northeast slope

to

Galena Creek Regional Park for yet more,

this time,

with Harriet,

on the Jones Creek Loop Trail,

gradually upslope past imitation wikiups to

Jones/Whites Creek Loop Junction,

in time for last light on the

Virginia Range to the east.

Retracing

the

course,

there

are

briefs

reconnoiters

of

the

last

several

weeks'

sights,

including the

Whites Creek Trailhead turnoff and the way

downstream, a short examination of the

way north to Thomas Creek,

then a

blast downslope on 431 to

Business 395,

arriving

at

the

pleasant

haven

of

[Joaquin] Murrieta's Mexican spot in Reno.

A shared tostada and dos (including one of the Equis variety) cervezas,

and

we are off again into that

tender night -- better and better -- all the way through a late return
