Up
early,
in
search
of
sun,
and
we
find
it
in
the long drive to the Santa Clarita Valley, plus flame and smoke, but the amusement park still stands,
and
then
stand away from it back through Gavin and
Weldon
Canyons
to
the
San Fernando Front Range
and
Verdugo
Mountains,
clouds
knifing in from the northwest again,
but
finally
beginning
to
re-clear
in
the
ascent
of
the
San Jacinto Highlands, hugging the precipices to the south of San Gorgonio Pass,
up
to
the
surprising
pastoralism
of
McMullen
Flat,
near
Barker
Ridge.
From
here,
take
a
shuttle
road-walk
of
about
3
miles
(6
in
the
round-tripping),
past
Poppet
Flat
and
Diamond
Zen
Roads,
views
opening
up
to
an
Indian /
Kenyan-Tanzanian
clearing
of
the
San
Bernardinos,
Cabazon
Peak,
Mts.
San
Gorgonio
and
Jacinto,
in
the
shadow
of
Ranger Peak to the intersection of colorfully named SBNF Road 3S09.
Towards the end, a driving detour from here to
Lake Fulmor
and
Indian Mountain,
then
reverse
course,
down
the
precipitous
slopes,
winding
amongst
peninsular
boulders
and
somewhat
challenged
eucalypti,
again
to
Banning,
bouncing
beyond
Beaumont
and
Calimesa,
for
Albondigas
soup
and Mexican coffee at
Jose's in
Yucaipa.
Check
in
with
John
again
at
his
gloriously
viewful
residence
again,
decamping
almost
immediately for
Redlands
and
San
Bernardino
to
Black
Black
Angus,
saying
saying hello to
Lisa and others. More everything, life, and music chat -- returning domicileward to take in The Decameron: First Day, Novels I-IV and X (Op. 200) videos, plus playing recording and piano-analytical versions of The Harmonies of the World: IV. The Universal Consonance of All Six Planets, Like Four-Part Counterpoint, Can Exist.(after Johannes Kepler). Good to see Elena and Claire, too, and we all talk into the night.
