Up reasonably early, doing a bit of catch-up re 21st-Century Music (unfortunately, the Journal needs more than a bit in this regard...), and eventually out the door
to
another
another long-overdue activity:
getting
back
on
the
road/trail re the walking-from-the-Pacific-to-Reno trip,
over
the
smoky
Sierra
Nevada,
the
skies
finally
clearing into bilowy cumuli when heading down from Donner Summit,
crosing
Truckee
Meadows
into
its
spectacular,
increasingly
rugged
and
arid
Canyon,
crossing
the
Nevada
state
line,
south
on
395,
then
back
southeast atop 431
to the forest edge,
picking up the
course roughly at the
foot of the
steep Carson Range slopes,
where the land tilts more gently towards
Galena Creek,
which proves to share its name with a wonderful
Regional Park,
replete with
visitors'
center,
expansive views of the Virginia and
Rose Ranges --
also
the
start
of
the
Jones /
Whites
Trail
system,
which shall
certainly be sampled next time,
inshallah.
Back
in
the
car,
head
downslope
again
(noting the beautiful / surreal smokefall)
to scout out the continuing route,
via a Parkway
through the
lamentably
fast-disappearing
Truckee
Meadows
then
west,
north,
and
northwest along curving
South
McCarran
Boulevard.
Back into
the thick of it --
smoky skies and traffic-wise --
the way is made past
Boomtown,
Verdi,
back
up
the
now-hazy
grade
into
California's
version
of
the
Truckee
River
Canyon,
up
the
continuing
slope
of
Donner
to
the
Summit,
then
downslope to Cisco Butte,
Burnt Ridge,
Emigrant Gap,
Gold Run,
Colfax Bridge,
across the Sacramento Valley,
the distant
Coast Range beckoning.
Upon return, finish the new orchestral performance edition of The Twelve Fingers: XII. March (51, rather than a mere 15, pages total) over videos with Harriet -- high 100 (58th 90+, 14th 100+), 147th day of summer temperatures (temp tops at 85 for Galena Creek, NV).
Also do a new edition of Elijah Rock: XXVb Samaria and Jerusalem, Op. 71, and compose Psalm 101 ("I Will Sing of Mercy and of Judgement"), recording the latter.
