March 4 - Partially Foggy Conditionals

Up early writing another page (6) of The Decameron - Third Day: IX, discovering that the Bela Bartok Orchestral Suite No. 1 and Igor Stravinsky Scherzo Fantastique parts are available at the International Music Score Library Project.

Make the way efficiently through

sun and

fog to Diablo Valley College, where the Theoreticians gather for the Jean-Pierre Ponnelle video of Giuseppe Verdi's Rigoletto: Quartet, Ab and Db Major, F Minor (Natural and Harmonic), C Chords, Chromatic Scale, and Dictation / Board Harmony on Frederic Chopin's Piano Prelude No. 4 in E Minor.

After various tutorials,

head out,

again in light and

dark to

U.C. Berkeley Music Library to take in Benjamin Britten's A Boy Was Born: Theme, Op. 3.

Following this, past medical centers, pick up the belated Journal at the printers,

Late continued lunch with Harriet, before she departs for a photo shoot, continuing score-study of Dmitri Shostakovich Theme and Variations in Bb Major and Samuel Barber's Dover Beach (pages 5 and 4 respectively).  Upon her return, begin same for Britten over videos.

March 3 - Reading, Writing, Rhythmatics

Belatedly finish the January 2013 issue of 21st-Century Music; continue score-study of Bartok Orchestral Suite No. 1, Stravinsky Scherzo Fantastique, Shostakovich Theme and Variations in Bb Major, and Barber Dover Beach; and compose The Decameron - Third Day: IX (pages 5, 5, 4, 3, 5 respectively) -- with Harriet out and the breezes blowing down towards the Bay.

As some of above continues, videos in the evening upon her return,

including the Studio One George Orwell 1984. (featuring nice usage of Shostakovich's Symphonies Nos. 5 and 7 -- here and/or elsewhere the series also utilizes Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique, Copland's The Red Pony, Holst's The Planets, Stravinsky's Symphony in Three Movements, and other impressive selections).

Relatively late, but evidently not too so, call Bette and George and wish the big guy a Happy 86th (!).

March 2 - Posting

Design a poster for Opus 3 (8pm, Saturday, March 30, Berkeley Arts Festival, 2133 University), continue score-study of Bartok Orchestral Suite No. 1, Stravinsky Scherzo Fantastique, Shostakovich Theme and Variations in Bb Major, Barber Dover Beach, and compose The Decameron - Third Day: IX (pages 4, 4, 3, 2, 4 respectively) -- with Harriet out for much of the day, returning for videos in the evening, including

Pontius Pilate (Studio One), which features music from Bartok's Miraculous Mandarin and other 20th-century composers.

March 1 - Shines On
