The damp, frigid gloom of a
Troutdale morning --
but at least no fog,
rain,
or snow --
so east through Columbia River Gorge,
past
Rooster Rock,
Mist
and
Multnomah
Falls,
Beacon
Rock,
Oneonta
Point,
Hood
River,
Klickitat
Cliffs,
Rowena
Ridge,
the
approach
to
The
Dalles,
Celilo
Causeway's
highlands,
Deschutes,
Miller
Island,
Biggs
Bridge to
Washington,
Rufus,
John
Day,
The
Nook,
Blalock
Grade
to
Arlington
for
a
supply
stop.
Then
up
onto
the
plateau,
again
the
foggy
frost
coating
every
branch in this mostly treeless world,
north
to
Horse
Heaven
Anticline,
Wallula
Gap,
Juniper
Canyon,
across
the
Washington
State
border,
Spring
Gulch,
Port
Kelley,
Twin
Sisters,
the
12
Junction
up
the
Walla
Walla
Valley,
the
rolling hills of
Touchet
and
Louden,
past
Waterbrook,
turning
south on Second to the
Starbucks at Main and First.
Checking in with Tisha,
we deliver goods and pick her up at a temporary retreat,
then reconnoiter
back at the coffee spot.
With Harriet and company off towards continuted Holiday arrangements,
linger to rendezvous with Heather Tyreman -- a very belated reunion after c. 33 years!... reminiscing about memorable Pomona days and much of life between then and now.
The four of us reconnect several hours later,
and head to Olive for a light repast.
With fond adieus to Heather, we three remainders proceed across town
to visit with
June,
Gary,
and
Angus --
after which check in with Ms. March Page at a local
overnight spot.
