on
another
glorious
day (27th of summer, high 84, fifth above 80, 2nd highest temperature of the year thus far) to Oakland.
It takes a while to get in,
with strains of Modest Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition at a near distance (the Maurice Ravel orchestration), but Charith comes to the rescue at a side door, in time to take in the break,
reunioning with Travis Kindred and
Lo,
and
meeting
conductor
Dave
Moschler and many others,
as they proceed through Matt Benedict-Montgomery's new and nice rock-and-roll crossover suite (orchestrated and co-conducted by Brian Adam McCune, who experiences a little surprise John Williams Hary Janos -- whoops! -- make that Harry Potter, rather than anything by Zoltan Kodaly)
over
beer, followed by
pizza, a brief meeting,
and
athletics.
Blasting
off
over
the
Bay Bridge,
it's time to arrive at
San Francisco
Community Music Center
(with an interesting car ballet),

Anywhere But Here: Mozart, Weill, Menotti -- in selections including excerpts from Gian Carlo Menotti's The Medium and
The Consul,
W.A. Mozart's The Magic Flute, and
Kurt Weill's Street Scene,
The Threepenny Opera,
Marie Galante,
and
Lost in the Stars --
and an
excellent show
it is!
Return under mild, starry skies, to print out the parts to Igor Stravinsky's Fireworks.
